I. HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT
1. ETYMOLOGY
Other towns have legends of their own as to how their respective names evolved.
In the case of the Municipality of Agno (Pangasinan), there are
series of versions, making this a very interesting subject of an intensive
research. One version, mentions of a certain General Agno who was known for his
daring and bravery. Another version pertains to a certain native called “Capitan
Agno”. The most accepted version is that the word “agno” was derived from a
specie of a swamp tree called “Agnocasto”. In the early times, Agnocasto, also
called Dangla in the vernacular, grew abundantly in the forefront of what was
once a virgin forest region. This chaste tree is still predominantly available
in the locality’s flora and is being used for medicinal concoctions to relieve
pain and other illnesses.
As time passed, the suffix “Casto” was left out retaining the prefix “Agno” to
become the name of the town. To date, there is an Agno River traversing the
Province of Pangasinan; a saint, San Bartolome de Agno, originally known as San
Manuel (Pangasinan); and the streets of Dagupan City and in the districts
of Tondo and Ermita in metro Manila bearing the name “Agno”. This goes to prove
that the present name of Agno was derived from a plant.read more>>>

"Come with us in Agno Pangasinan", said uncle Danny. "We will go to the beach and see the umbrella rocks".
"Nope, I can't travel that long, I'll just swim here in the river and play with the rocks and sands instead", I replied.
That conversation was 25 years ago. Uncle Danny brought some of their pictures and aghastly said, "Wow beautiful, it is really true about the rocks, I hope I went with you, anyway there are more days ahead, I'll be with you the next time".
