Galimuyod Ilocos Sur Philippines
History of Galimuyod
Etymology of Galimuyod
The present official name of the town is “Galimuyod”. During the Spanish
time, Galimuyod was a part of Candon, in fact, the biggest among its
barrios. The people of the whole municipality wanted very much to have their own
government so they worked for its township. In 1908, the community finally
became a township. The original name of this town was “Cabisilan”. Most of the
pieces of land of this town were owned by the people of Sapang, a barrio of the
same municipality. The people of this barrio wanted to have all the pieces of
land to be theirs, but people of Cabisilan don’t want their land properties to
be owned by people who were not from their place. As a result, the people of
Cabisilan had a tug of war. So, the people of this place thought of changing its
name to “Galimuyod”, and from that time on Cabisilan was named “Galimuyod”.
Creation of the Municipality
It was then in 1908 when Galimuyod Ilocos Sur was made a township
through the efforts of all the families composing the community. The heads of
families wanting Galimuyod to have a government of its own worked hard to
practice self-government in a democratic way of living. Some of the heads of
families are here mentioned as follows: Bisting of Madarang, Fail of Calimogtong,
Aleso of Galimuyod, and Langoey of Galimuyod.
